Walton County Libertarian View Point
Bi-Weekly Political Discussions
Bi-weekly political views and commentary by the Walton county Florida Libertarian party.
Uncertainty Still Reigns
Will the Democrats retain control of congress, or will the Republicans manage to achieve an advantage? I was certain the Democrats in the congress of 2006 were going to be replaced. Back then congress only had an approval rating of around 16 percent. Not only did most of those people retain their seats, but the public elected even more of the same stripe.
What happened? Well the mainstream media and all of the blogs favoring the Democrats convinced half the country that they hated George Bush. A propaganda coup rivaling anything we saw during the second world war. The new administration continued on with most of the policies that caused everyone to hate George Bush. Policies the mainstream media has made little comment on.
The Democratic Progressives galvanized their own base while dividing the Republican base. A war was created between so called liberals and conservatives. You were a liberal if you were a Democrat, and conservative if you were a Republican.
Actually most people in this country have a libertarian philosophy, and are a little of both. There are many people who consider themselves Democrats, and are fiscally conservative. Farmers, ranchers, and small business people for instance. There are many Republicans, with even a fair number in the congress and senate, who are liberals.
The war between liberals and conservatives these two parties engage in does not benefit the American people. It is a divide and conquer strategy for political dominance. We the people need to get the crew now in congress sent to the unemployment lines they created.
We are going to have to concentrate on achieving this objective, and go back to being American citizens, not liberals and conservatives, if we hope to achieve this goal. The Democratic party has patiently put together little groups of "Victims" whose needs only they can, or will, address. They are the Democrats special interest groups. There are almost enough special interest groups to carry the Democratic party to victory if all the rest of us oppose them. So we can not afford to be divided and conquered.
In addition the Democrats still have the power of the mainstream media behind them, even though it has lost some clout, as people discovered what was going on. We still have Fox News and talk radio to rely on, but the Democrats still have a formidable force.
It has become obvious to most of us that the Progressive Democrats who now control congress want to take the country down a path that looks a lot like socialism. As Americans most of us object to being lead down that path.
If we hope to win we must forget this fake war the two parties have created between liberals and conservatives and be united as Americans in a common purpose. As Libertarians, we have no problem uniting with moderate liberals, or conservative Republicans. Indeed our own party is both socially liberal, and fiscally conservative, so we have much in common with both camps.
You folks in these two parties who have been taught by your leaders that your fellow countrymen are your enemies, will have to work at it a bit. The people who presently control the Democratic party are Progressives. It seems reasonable, even likely, that the folks this party chooses to run are of the same stripe. So even if you are a Democrat it isn't a good idea to vote for one of their candidates.
So who are you going to vote for? The tea party, liberty movement, and the libertarian party, have tried to find candidates who are constitutional conservatives. People who we hope will return the country to the foundation laid by the founding fathers in the US Constitution. They are Libertarians, independents, and Republicans. Just pick the best of these men and vote "Not Democratic".
You folks in the Republican ranks are going to have to realize that we can not obtain victory unless all Americans unite to achieve it. Forget the Liberal stuff, embrace the tea party, and let's all work together to defeat the progressives.
I worked hard to defeat the Democratically controlled congress back in 2006, and watched in horror as all of those people were re-elected, and even more added to their lot. I never dreamed these people could be re-elected with a 16 percent approval rating, but they were. This congress has a 26 percent approval rating, and about everything else they had in 2006 going for them. Don't get over confident.
Hopefully, if we manage to soundly defeat the progressives the Democratic party will have a rebirth as the Republican party has had, and the progressives will be replaced. If not, remember that our party, the Libertarian party, represents ALL Americans.
What they are doing in congress doesn't make sense, it just doesn't benefit the country, or you and me. We need to elect citizens to congress to replace these professional politicians who only serve their own self interest. The Libertarian party has worked hard to find citizens who are willing to serve their country. You can help.
