How To Become A Member Of The Walton Co. Libertarian Party

If you wish you can just attend one of our regular meetings on the second Friday of each month. We meet at the South Walton Public library meeting room. Our meeting is from (9:00 AM to 10:00 AM). You don't have to join the national party to join our local party.

If you are interested in becoming an officer, national party membership is required, as well as being registered to vote libertarian. Otherwise you can retain your current voter registration.

Building Libertarian Party Membership To Win Elections

When I first moved here back in 1960, one of the fellows I worked with decided to run for county commissioner. He investigated the election results for past elections for that office, and he told us that if all of us who worked with him would vote for him he could win.

We did all vote for him, and he did win. He didn't knock on a single door, buy a minutes worth of air time, engage in any debates, or kiss a single baby. If you have the votes you don't have to appeal to special interest groups for votes, or bargain with powerful interests for campaign money.

That is why your membership is important. That 25 dollar contribution when you sign up is a commitment. It means you care enough about the welfare of your country to participate. We think that if you are committed to liberty you will help us select our candidates, and show up on election day and vote for them.

Building Our Local Membership

If we can build our membership enough we will be in the same situation as my friend who ran for county commissioner. We can remove the possibility of big money corrupting our candidates, and we won't have to make any bargains with special interest groups for votes. That is the kind of government our founding fathers designed for us.

The people we elect to office can concentrate on doing their job, and will not be distracted by having to plan their next election campaign. If they do their job we will re-elect them, if they do not, another Libertarian will take their place.

You may be a possible candidate. If you do not want to run for office yourself you can help select the people who will run for office.

When you become a Libertarian, you will get a handsome Libertarian party ID card, and a neat bumper sticker with "LP" on it.

You don't have to live in Walton county to join the national party. Just go to the national web site and join up. Once you join try to locate your own local group. You can find contact information on your state web site. Just look for the "States" link on the menu at the top of the national party web site. Join up!
